Why Go Green with Your Clean?

Healthier Home: Many conventional cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other irritants that can impact air quality and even trigger allergies or asthma. Natural alternatives are gentle on your lungs and skin.

Planet-Friendly: Reduce your reliance on single-use plastic bottles and harmful chemicals that end up in our waterways.

Save Money: Often, a few versatile, refillable, and concentrated eco-friendly staples can replace a cabinet full of specialised (and expensive) cleaners.

Degrease & Shine: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle with a few drops of lemon essential oil. Use this all-purpose spray to wipe down countertops, appliance exteriors, and the inside of your fridge.

Sparkling Sink: Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda in your sink, scrub with a wet brush or cloth, then rinse with hot water. For tough stains, add a a sprinkling of scrub powder, it has amazing results.

2. The Bathroom: A Fresh Start

Toilet Bowl Blitz: Dissolve two tablespoons of citric acid granules in a freshly boiled kettle of water until completely dissolved. Push the cold water out of the toilet with a toilet brush, pour the slightly cooled citric acid solution down the toilet and let sit for about an hour (or overnight) then scrub with your toilet brush.

Tile & Grout Brightener: Mix a solution of water, surgical spirit and vinegar with a few drop of lemon essentail oil. Spray on grout and tiles, let it sit for 15minutes, then wipe away. If there is any mould in the grout that didn't come away take a toothbrush dipped in some bicarbonate of soda and brush the mould spots being careful not to break the seal of the sealant. Rinse thoroughly.

Mirror & Shower Streak-Free: A solution of equal parts white vinegar and water (with a drop of castile soap for extra cleaning power) in a spray bottle works wonders. Wipe with a lint-free cloth or newspaper.

3. Living Areas & Bedrooms: Dust & Declutter

Dust Buster: Instead of disposable wipes, use damp reusable cloths for dusting. The moisture traps dust rather than just pushing it around.

Floor Power: For hard floors, a solution of warm water and a few drops of liquid castile soap is often all you need. For carpets, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda, let it sit for 15-30 minutes, then vacuum thoroughly to absorb odours.

Window Wonders: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray on windows and wipe with a clean, dry microfiber cloth for streak-free results.

Don't Forget the "Behind-the-Scenes" Tasks!

Wash Curtains & Blinds/Shutters: Many can be laundered; for blinds, wipe with your all-purpose vinegar spray, I like to use an old sock to dust the shutters.

Clean Your Cleaning Tools: Sanitize your brushes, wash your cloths, and clean out your vacuum filter.

Declutter Mindfully: As you clean, assess items. Can they be donated, repaired, or repurposed? Aim to send as little as possible to the landfill.
